Faculty of Economics
The Faculty of Economics began its history in 1966 when ESSUTM (the former ESTI, ESSTU)
established a specialization “Economy and Food Commodities Industry Organization”,
which earlier was moved from Omsk Agricultural Institute with all its students.
Two years later 24 engineering economists graduated from the university.
The Faculty of Engineering Economics got its present name in 1997.
In September 1999 The Faculty of Economics was reformed into the
Institute of Economics and Law which then consisted of 7 degree-granting departments,
2 laboratories and a publishing department. The Institute was training economics students
of 10 specializations and law students.
In May 2005 the Institute of Economics and Law was reorganized and two independent
faculties (The Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Law) were established.
The main purpose was to improve quality of economic and law education in connection
with growing potential of IEL.
Ochirov S.B. was the first Dean. Then the faculty was headed by Prof. Dyrheev V.K.
(1976-1983), Ass. Prof. Budaeva E.V. (1983-1987), Ass.Prof. Munaev L.A. (1987-1989),
Prof. Atanov N.I. (1990), Prof. Orehova R.A. (1990-1991), Prof. Tsyrenova E.D. (1991-1997).
The present faculty Dean is Prof. Luydmila Nikolaevna Mansheeva,
Candidate of economic science, Honoured Education Worker of Buryatiya,
Honorary Higher Education Worker of the Russian Federation.
The faculty has 183 tutors and researchers, including 19 DPhil
of Economic Science, professors, 101 Candidates of economic science, associate professors.
The faculty comprises of 8 degree-granting departments, a Production Complex
“Market Research Centre”, an Innovation Complex “Banking”, a Stock Exchange Transactions Laboratory.
Basic Goals and Aims
The Faculty of Economics is trying to create best conditions for intellectual,
cultural and moral development of its employees, under- and post-graduate students.
The faculty’s fundamental goals are:
- training specialists for developing and reforming social and economic systems of the country and creating new technologies and methods of administration;
- doing research for enhancing scientific and economic potential of the country and the region;
- post-graduate and doctoral candidacy training;
- refresher courses.

The faculty also has Bachelor degree and Master degree programs
in Management, Economics, Business Informatics, State and Municipal Administration,
Commerce and Applied Informational Systems; Master degree program in Finance and Crediting.
The faculty offers different kinds of advanced training: Refresher courses for upper
and middle personnel in Financial Management, Management and Marketing; Accounting and
Finance Training and Certification; advanced training for higher education teaching staff,
government and commercial employees.
The faculty has more than 2500 students (1900 resident students and 600 are a part
of distant education program). Moreover all the faculty’s departments have short-term programs
for more than 3100 economics students on the basis of specialized secondary and higher education.
Since 2006 students from China have been studying at the faculty
due to the mutual agreement between ESSTU and Changchun Institute of International Commerce
of Jilin University
For the first time in the history of ESSTU and Buryatia students from China graduated with
a bachelor degree in Economics in May 2010.
In 2008 a new Russian-French Economics and Management Program was launched. It allows
its participants to get a Bachelor degree in International Economics from two universities
at once, one being the Universite de Nice Sophia-Antipolis, and a specialist degree in World
Economics from ESSUTM.
In 2009 ESSUTM (ESSTU) and Dalian Neusoft Institute of Information (China)
started training students in two disciplines «Business Informatics» and «E-Commerce». At
the end of the 5-year course (2,5 years + 2,5 years) students get two Bachelor degrees
(in Business Informatics and Management).
