The climate is sharply continental, with pronounced seasons - in winter, spring, summer and autumn.

The winter is long, frosty, almost windless and with little snow. The average January temperature is –23 ºС. Summer is short, warm, hot in places. The average July temperature is +21 ºС.
The weather near the shores of Lake Baikal is somewhat milder. Summer there is cooler, winter is warmer.

Precipitation is low and heavily concentrated in the warmer months. Buryatia is characterized by a significant duration of sunshine from 1900 hours per year in the northern regions to 2500 hours in the extreme south. That's why the name "Sunny Buryatia" has been fixed for Buryatia for a long time.
